Hydrometallurgical leaching and recovery of cobalt from lithium ion battery

چکیده
The main aim of this work was to test the ability an amino acid (i.e. glycine) leach cobalt from Li ion batteries (LiBs). process parameters namely temperature, pulp density and concentration glycine were optimized for maximizing leaching efficiency cathodic material. Response surface methodology (RSM) applied determining experimental conditions instead using traditional one factor at a time (OFAT) approach in order ascertain interaction effects between different factors. Thus, optimal value based on RSM maximum potential LiBs obtained. optimum values as follows; temperature = 74 °C, 19.9 g/L 0.936 M. Under condition, 61.8%, while 89.7% achieved following conditions: 100 13.8 1.24 Oxalic used recovering solution by varying pH molar ratio oxalic ions. Cobalt recovery efficiencies ∼88.0% 7.0 2.5:1.0.

Leaching Process for the Recovery of Valuable Metals from Spent Lithium- Nickel-cobalt-manganese-oxide-based Lithium-ion Batteries
This study focused on the leaching process for the recycling of Li, Ni, Co, and Mn from the LiNixCoyMnzO2 (NCM) cathodes of spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Eh–pH diagrams were used to analyze suitable leaching conditions. Operating variables, such as the concentration of H2SO4 (0.5–2.5 M), concentration of H2O2 (0–1 vol%), temperature (10–50 °C), stirring speed (400–800 rpm), and solid/liqu...
متن کاملRecovery of cobalt sulfate from spent lithium ion batteries by reductive leaching and solvent extraction with Cyanex-272
Cobalt sulfate was recovered from crushed and screened prismatic type spent lithium ion batteries (LIBs) containing 5~20 % Co, 5~7 % Li, 5~10 % Ni, 15% organic chemicals, and 7% plastics together with Cu, Al, Fe, and Mn. Cobalt was reductively leached from the -16 mesh fraction in 1 h by stirring with 2 M H2SO4 and 6 vol% H2O2, at 60 C and 300 rpm using a solid/liquid ratio of 100 g/L to give a...
متن کاملRecovery of cobalt and lithium from spent lithium ion batteries using organic citric acid as leachant.
In this work, a hydrometallurgical process based on leaching is applied to recover cobalt and lithium from spent lithium ion batteries (LIBs). Citric acid and hydrogen peroxide are introduced as leaching reagents and the leaching of cobalt and lithium with a solution containing C(6)H(8)O(7) x H(2)O is investigated. When both C(6)H(8)O(7) x H(2)O and H(2)O(2) are used an effective recovery of Li...
متن کاملLeaching Recovery of Zinc, Cobalt and Manganese from Zinc Purification Residue
This paper reports on the recovery of zinc, cobalt and manganese by two-step leaching of zinc-plants purification residue with sulfuric acid. The residue, hot filter press cake (HFC), contains 14 % ZnO, 4.8 % Co3O4 and 22.9 % MnO. Effects of different parameters are determined and used to optimize the process. With acid to hot filter press cake (HFC) stoichiometry of 0.85, acid concentration of...
متن کاملElectrochemical Characterization of Low-Cost Lithium-Iron Orthosilicate Samples as Cathode Materials of Lithium-Ion Battery
Lithium-iron-orthosilicate is one of the most promising cathode materials for Li-ion batteries due to its safety, environmental brightness and potentially low cost. In order to produce a low cost cathode material, Li2FeSiO4/C samples are synthesized via sol-gel (SG; one sample) and solid state (SS; two samples with different carbon content), starting from Fe (III) in the raw materials (lo...
